How to Rebuild Broken Trust to Stop a Divorce

Stopping a divorce is rather like trying to bring a juggernaut to a halt when the brakes aren't working ! But it can be done. Divorces happen for many reasons so there is no magic answer. The most common reason though, is because of broken trust. If you really love your spouse and have been cheating on him or her, then you have do something about it and that means NOT doing it again and showing him/her that this is really happening, rather than just talking about it.

You have to start taking responsibility if you are really want to stop your divorce If trust has been broken by unfaithfulness, then you really have to demonstrate that it will not happen again, if you are really serious about the whole thing. Anything you DO from now on has to demonstrate that. This is the way to build up the trust again. Notice my emphasis on DO, rather than talk or say or think!

You have to show that you have really changed - there is no need to justify what you did over and over again and certainly do not get into an argument about it or get annoyed as the ball is in your court now and you have to know what to do with it. Basically you want to score!

Maybe you are the one who was betrayed and your spouse was the guilty party. How are you going to deal with this ? Try to put yourself in their shoes and think how you would want to be forgiven and given another chance. So does your spouse ! You should start to think about how and why this infidelity occurred - there must be a reason. If there is and you can identify it, then there is a good chance it can be resolved. That is not always the case though.

Try to get advice from friends who have been through a divorce themselves. They will be able to give you some suggestions about whether you can stop your divorce or not. Failing that, you can get professional help. If you really want to save the relationship , you should get the best relationship rescue advice there is available. You may need therapy to help you cope with depression. But it will also be a great help in trying to understand what is happening and why it is happening. There is a lot of stress involved especially when broken trust is the issue to be resolved. Basically try to get all the help you can to stop a divorce - you do not need to go it alone.
