I once knew a couple who moved in together and she became pregnant. She had one enormous defect and that was, she was pathologically untidy! Result:- he dumped her. Here is another story about a guy I knew, Michael, who was a slob, quite frankly. Not only was his flat a total mess, but he himself was pretty scruffy too ! Now that his ex had dumped him - she was horrified at the prospect of moving in with him - he was desperate to get his ex girlfriend back.
Well, Michael was no fool and he was able to sit back and look at himself in the mirror in every respect and take a critical look. Well, he did NOT like what he saw at all! He only went to get his haircut in desperation and as for clean fingernails- let's not discuss it! Shaving was strictly for the office. Pretty scruffy all round, Michael had to admit to himself. The flat he had to admit, rather ruefully, was a rubbish dump. So, no wonder his ex had balked at the idea of moving in with him. So, things needed changing but he would still have to persuade his ex that things were going to be different if he had any chance at all to get back with her.
Michael had no financial problems so he decided to employ a housekeeping cleaning agency to give the flat a good once over every week. They also did laundry so all Michael's shirts were soon hanging in the closet, beautifully ironed. Michael cleaned himself up too - he started having showers every day and shave also, even at weekends. He started looking after his teeth as well so regular brushing was now a feature of his daily life.
He then told his ex all about the changes. He actually sent her an e mail with some attachments of the newly cleaned flat and even a few photos of himself with his new hairstyle! His ex was gracious enough to agree to go out with him for a drink. She was missing him a lot and was still in love with him but not to the extent of moving in with such a slob - everyone has their limits!
Michael admitted that his personal and domestic cleanliness had certainly not been very close to godliness but said that he was going to make a real effort to change now and that the attachments to the e mail were just the beginning. He told her about the cleaning agency and said that his place had been transformed. His ex was touched that such a drastic change had come about but she was not really sure that this was going to become permanent and so they agreed to start going out again and then talk about the question of moving in with each other in a few months' time. Michael was delighted that the relationship was saved and he had got his ex girlfriend back by cleaning up his act
